The Worst Week Of The Year

This is the worst week of the year for a sports fan and MLB has made it even worse this year.  Between now and Friday you will have the Home Run Derby (who cares?), the All-Star Game (the players don’t care, so why should we?), 9 WNBA games and 1 MLS game. That’s it, there is nothing else to watch sports-wise unless you happen to love horse racing or think the ESPY’s make compelling television. Things are so bleak that I am seriously considering watching the “White Shadow” on ESPN Classic Thursday.

Instead of getting depressed about this, I am going to  think of this as a good time to catch up on important paperwork, read a book, attend a cultural event.  I am going to take a four-day vacation from sports. Then again, if the Nets pull off the Dwight Howard trade, or the Rangers finally land Rick Nash, my “vacation” will quickly end.

Agreed. One note, since partaking in the HR derby last year, A-Gon has been MIA compared to his history. It is often said that the HR derby can ruin a player’s swing for a period of time. I am beginning to wonder with Gonzalez. Maybe the Sox should force him into it again this year to find that stroke.

    White Shadow- I’m there!

Dwight Howard to Brooklyn? Do they play hoops in NY? j/k

It’s funny how a few months ago you were talking about how the Yankees had to be in panic mode over Teixeira’s contract versus his performance. Does this mean you are now in the same place with Gonzalez and the $130 million the Sox still owe him?

White Shadow was a great show. Haven’t watched it in years, looking forward to it.

And to answer your question, they haven’t played basketball in New York for years, but it sounds like that is about to change!

I would absolutely want Howard if I haven’t had a decent team to cheer for in years. I wonder if he will go without a title in his career though. Doesn’t seem to have “it”. Maybe if he cared enough to learn to shoot foul shots I’d be more impressed.

No, I think Gonzo is curable and it is something where he is young enough to make right. Not sure what happened, but he had a great first half last year, ok second half, less than ok first half this year. I don’t know if Valentine is the one to coax him back though. Lots of time left to worry about it.

70’s shows don’t translate real well I’m afraid. Pulled up some Rockford Files on netflix and it was a favorite of mine and my wife too. We both looked at each other and wondered what we were smoking back then (nothing of course).

Howard is an interesting figure. In my opinion, Howard’s behavior off the court with his contract, his coach and GM makes LeBron look like a choir boy.

But, a lineup of Howard, Williams, Johnson, Wallace and someone at PF looks really good on paper. Certainly more than enough talent to sell a ton of tickets in Brooklyn and give the Knicks a real run for their money.

M*A*S*H is still a favorite of mine.

If the GM the same Billy King that used to be the GM of the Hawks? If so, never mind. Brooklyn will never win. He is the brain child that passed on Chris Paul and Deron Williams and continued to draft over rated Sheldon Williams, Marvin Williams, etc. instead…good luck if it is the same guy.

MASH movie is classic. I also don’t think, in it’s prime, Seinfeld (I hold very highly regarded) can touch MASH the tv show. I’m talking before Charles shows up, when it was in the similar vein as the movie.
