A Long Time Coming

You would think that a league that had only six teams in it for over 40 years would have seen all of those teams face each other in the Stanley Cup, but this year’s edition between Boston and Chicago will be the first time they have ever met with the title on the line. It’s also the first matchup of two Original Six teams since 1979.

But it also leaves one remaining Original Six matchup that has never occurred in the Stanley Cup- Rangers vs. Blackhawks.

Perhaps in 2014?

Stop Going To North Korea

Here’s a Dennis Rodman quote from today

If LeBron was playing in the late ’80s and early ’90s, he would be just an average player

I’m not a LeBron fan by any means, but you can’t deny the fact that we are watching an all-time great player right now. Last night’s performance of 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists was pretty special. Look at his career stats– wow.

But here’s my biggest problem with Rodman’s quote. Put LeBron in the 1990’s and tell me this- who is going to guard him?

He’s 6’8″, 250 pounds, but moves quickly enough to guard anyone on the floor. Jordan was a fantastic defender, but do you think Jordan could handle LeBron in the post? Could Larry Bird stay with him on the wing? Better question, could Rodman? I don’t think so and that is the problem with comparing eras. Players today are much bigger and faster than they were 20 years ago. That may or may not be due to chemical enhancements, but whatever the reason the 1990 NBA All-Stars would have their hands full with their 2013 counterparts.
