Headsets?

My patience with Joe Judge wore out last night. For the first 24 games of his tenure, I’ve been willing to overlook a terrible record (8-16) and instead focus on visible signs of improvement and picture a future much better than the present. But that’s over now because he blamed headsets for the Giants terrible clock management. When asked why the Giants burned time outs in the first half his answer was-

“The headsets were going out,” Judge said, via NJ.com. “This has been happening in every game so far. We deal with the league and they keep telling us about different software updates or whatever it is.”

Every game? This is week 8 and you’ve had this problem every game and can’t get it fixed? And why are you the only team in the NFL that has headset problems? The excuse is laughable, but also points to something Judge has not shown before, a need to deflect the blame.

And there is plenty of blame to go around. The Giants should have won last night against a Kansas City squad that looks terrible. But they should have won in Weeks 2&3 as well. That’s what bad teams do, they lose games they should win. If you were going to make a list of people to blame, you obviously start with the GM who put this mess together. But it’s also not his fault when a veteran receiver runs a 2-yard route on 3rd-and-4. It’s not his fault when the fullback, tasked with very little in this offense, rips off a huge play and then negates it with a stupid taunting penalty. It’s not his fault when a guy jumps offside and negates an interception that would have given the Giants a huge chance to win the game. That’s where coaching comes in and while the talent on this team is bad, the stupid mistakes are worse. 24 games into a coach’s tenure, they shouldn’t still be happening and we shouldn’t be hearing about headsets. Joe Judge needs to clean it up and show us some wins, I would say he needs at least 4 over the final 9 games, or the Giants should go shopping for both a new GM and Coach this offseason
